TEXT: I Corinthians 9:24-27
The number one enemy of focus is wastefulness.
“And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.” Luke 15:13
Only one life so soon it will pass and only what is done for
Christ will last.
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.” I Corinthians 9:24
A focused life doesn’t dwell on the past, but looks to the future.
“13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
I John 1:9
A focused life anticipates and prepares for the Judgement Seat Of Christ.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” II Corinthians 5:10
“And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.” I Corinthians 9:25
A focused life requires dedication and Spirit control in all
Romans 12:1
“Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.” I Corinthians 9:26
A focused life accomplishes clearly defined God given
“15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17
“Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.“
Habakkuk 2:2
“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” I Corinthians 9:27
A focused life practices spiritual disciplines for living pure.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,“ Hebrews 12:1
“Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” II Timothy 2:21
“3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,” I Thessalonians 4:3-4
“So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.“ Psalm 90:12
